چکیده

Recent work has led to highly efficient physics-based computational models of wave propagation in strings, acoustic tubes, membranes, plates, and rooms using the digital waveguide filter, the 2-D digital waveguide mesh, and the 3-D tetrahedral digital waveguide mesh, all of which are suitable for real-time musical synthesis applications. A simple first-order nonlinear filter structure derived from a passive nonlinear impedance circuit is described which extends the usefulness of these models, and which avoids the difficulties of energy conservation when memoryless nonlinearities are inserted in resonant feedback systems. © 1997 Acoustical Society of America. @S0001-4966~97!01602-0#

Discrete-time modelling of musical instruments

This article describes physical modelling techniques that can be used for simulating musical instruments. The methods are closely related to digital signal processing. They discretize the system with respect to time, because the aim is to run the simulation using a computer. The physics-based modelling methods can be classified as mass–spring, modal, wave digital, finite difference, digital wav...

Direct Simulation for Wind Instrument Synthesis

There are now a number of methods available for generating synthetic sound based on physical models of wind instruments, including digital waveguides, wave digital filters, impedance-based methods and those involving impulse responses. Normally such methods are used to simulate the behaviour of the resonator, and the coupling to the excitation mechanism is carried out by making use of simple lu...

Object-based Sound Source Modeling

This thesis proposes techniques for object-based audio and music. The work can be divided into two parts corresponding to model-based synthesis of musical instruments and computational analysis of audio and music. The contributions of this work are in signal and auditory analysis, sound object modeling, and sound signal synthesis. The rst half of the thesis considers linear and particularly non...

Physics - Based Sound Synthesis of the Piano Balázs Bank

The present work is about the synthesis of piano sound based on the grounds of physical principles. For that, rst the acoustical properties of the piano have to be understood, since the underlying physical phenomena establish the framework for the model-based sound synthesis. Therefore, the di erent parts of the piano were measured and analyzed. The groundwork of the piano model lies in the dig...

A Component-Based Approach for Modeling Plucked-Guitar Excitation Signals

Platforms for mobile computing and gesture recognition provide enticing interfaces for creative expression on virtual musical instruments. However, sound synthesis on these systems is often limited to sample-based synthesizers, which limits their expressive capabilities. Source-filter models are adept for such interfaces since they provide flexible, algorithmic sound synthesis, especially in th...
